Julien and I have worked on a number of campaigns to help veterans suffering from TBI/PTSD/Depression. Julien is passionate about helping integrate veterans back into their community and sees this as a vital step to improving the life of our Fallen War Heroes.

Julien has pledged to me that when elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for Virginia's 10th Congressional District, he will lead Congress in the area of veteran health by making it a legislative priority.

Julien's personal history overcoming a sports related brain injury give him the knowledge and the experience to champion this issue. I wholeheartedly endorse Julien Modica's campaign to become Virginia's next 10th Congressional District Representative in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Sincerely,

I write today in support of Julien Modica for Virginias 10th Congressional District. If what we want from our elected leaders is true leadership then I can think of no others that can compare with Julien.

Those students of history may recall Alexander the Great of Macedon (356323 BC). In just 33 short years Alexander conquered the entire known civilized world. An empire the world has not seen before or since. How, one may ask, was one so young able to accomplish so much?  The answer is simple: leadership. Alexander led from the front. He led the charge. He led by example. This simple fact demonstrated to his troops, and to his foes as well, his commitment, dedication, honor and discipline.

Like Alexander, Julien posses each of these traits. Unlike Alexander, however, Julien adds understanding, compassion and a willingness to listen to others. Julien leads from the front. The example that Julien has set before us is unwavering and inspirational. As a true leader Julien demonstrates to us what ultimate potential can be unleashed in each and every one of us. What more can we ask from our leadership than that?

I will not bore the reader with the details of the terrible pole vault accident Julien suffered in 1976. As one who was there let me say the fact that Julien is still with us speaks volumes about his strength. I speak not of his physical strength rather of his strength of will. His unrelenting determination to persevere and succeed is exemplary. I was the first to reach Julien as he lay on the gym floor. I rode with him in the ambulance to the hospital. I well remember the trauma Julien
suffered. It was severe and in all likelihood he should not have survived that night. Yet he did. His fate was not written that evening. Julien's destiny is waiting to be fulfilled.

I first became eligible to vote in the 1980 elections. I voted for Ronald Regan, twice. In fact I have never voted for a Democrat at the top of the ticket in my life. The truth is I have only voted for three Democrats in my life. (Bill Spoon, Orange County Florida School Board; Bob Graham, former Florida Governor and United States Senator; Bill Nelson, current Florida senior United States Senator) If I were able to, Julien would be my fourth. As it stands I will gladly give of my
time and my money to help elect such a fine and worthy candidate. For many years I was a registered Republican. Only recently have I changed to no party affiliation. As one who leans right I never thought I would be so supportive of an opposition party candidate.

I do not give my support lightly. I take my civic responsibility seriously. I take the time to research the issues and the candidates. Today, more than ever, we need responsible and focused politicians in Washington D.C. Moreover, and, in my opinion, more importantly, we need ethical leaders. We need people in leadership positions who truly understand and relate to the constituencies they represent. Our great republic is in peril. Many complex issues confront us at every turn.  We need intelligent and moral leaders at such an important time in our history. We need Julien Modica to represent us. We need his unrivaled dedication to purpose. We need his intellect to help solve our common problems. His commitment to improve the lives of others is without question. And finally, Juliens discipline and honor are unmatched. In short, we need Julien in Congress.

I did not know Julien Modica very well at Herndon High School, though we were in the same grade. But I do remember a vibrant, athletic young man with flowing blond hair who excelled at sports and seemed to have a definite idea of where he wanted to go in life. I also remember the terrible day when we heard that Julien had missed the landing mat at an indoor track meet and had suffered a traumatic brain injury. At the time, it was not even certain Julien would survive, and if he did, it was not known if he would ever regain his full motor function. Then, about a year or two later, I happened to be driving down North Shore Drive in Reston, Virginia, and saw a young man running along the side of the road. He was not really running, but was staggering, and it was obvious that the very act of running was taking every fiber of his being as he made his slow, painful progress. I knew a second later that this was Julien, and I thought, what an amazing guy that he is out here, creeping along the side of the road, sweat pouring off of him, to regain his former fitness. It was an inspiration to me then, and it continues to be to this day. When I was injured in a car accident some years ago and a doctor told me he was not sure I'd be able to run again, I thought of Julien, and resolved to do so. I have been running ever since. When I shared Julien's story with my high school students this week, I told them of his incredible resolve, passion, and discipline, and my classes shared my wonder that a man can suffer such a catastrophic injury and move onwards to such heights.

I am an internationally-known military aviation historian.  I am apolitical, but I firmly believe that men like Julien are one in a million, and that a man like him is exactly the kind of man we need to turn around the gridlock and the narcissism that plagues government. I endorse him whole-heartedly, all the way from rural Idaho, USA.

My memories of Julien are larger than life. While this was 30 years ago in high school I still remember his athletic prowess, leadership skills, good humor and ultimate fortitude. Many looked up to Julien because he was a gifted athlete. However what really set him apart from his peers – and what carries him today - are the leadership skills and tenacity that he exhibits. These skills will serve him well as a public figure in Congress.
